3.5 stars.
With so many stories of horrible child stars, and with what seems like an inevitable Justin Bieber meltdown, it's nice to read about a child star who has his head on relatively straight, even if he is fictional. The Love Song of Jonny Valentine nicely captures the isolation of celebrities and the enormous obligation one feels when so many others are dependent on that person, whether financially or emotionally. This eleven year old narrator seems far beyond his years, but perhaps that's to be expected when you're raised under a spotlight.
